SAR government allows the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office to proceed with entry document procedure for Taiwan-bound visitors. It was announced Saturday.

The Office of the Chief Executive made the announcement, stating that the decision was made with the consideration on the convenience for local residents and visitors from mainland and abroad to enter Taiwan.

The decision was in accordance with the basic principal and policy of the Central Government in relationship between Macao and Taiwan, the announcement stated.

Macao and Taiwan has maintained close economic and relations, especially in the area of tourism, which is a major industry in the SAR, in the year 2001, over 1.3 million Taiwan residents has visited Macau. Meanwhile, the Macao International Airport, which provide quasi-direct fright between the mainland and Taiwan, has served over 900 thousands transit and transfer passengers traveling between the straits.
